Replacement Theory in Action: Staffing agencies now explicitly demand H-1Bs and Exclude Americans (Public Board)

https://freebeacon.com/america/no-us-citizens-meet-the-it-firms-discriminating-against-americans/

It makes me angry (just as liberals do all of the time) because it's purified, distilled injustice and evil.

I have real bitterness about my IT career and it's because of the personality profile of the standard IT geek.

After about 2000 I lost most of my feeling of camaraderie and fellowship with developers. Almost everyone I worked with at a peer level was either a coward, a weak quisling, a supercilious prick, or abjectly clueless about actual life and people. The forums I used to run like OpenIT were for me like walking through a prison yard waiting to be shanked if I wrote anything someone didn't like.

Anyone in IT I would mention in real life to about this (outsourcing) stuff back in the early 2000s treated me like a whining retard.

Schadenfreude is mine - people I once supported who generally stabbed me in the back have been blown out of the employment system.

These are only the people dumb enough to put it in writing. Most of the time, they go through the motions of interviewing US citizens, then find some bullshit reason to disqualify them. In fact, the H1b application process demands they "prove they can't find qualified Americans", which means they interview some citizens and then reject them.

There is nothing more discouraging than going on a job interview and the entire floor, 100% of the people, are Indian. What a complete waste of time! I'm more annoyed that they made me waste half a day than not getting hired. A lot of times the hiring manager contact has a normal-sounding name, so you don't realize he's an Indian until you get there.

It had to end up this way. The H-1B visa program has been abused for a long time by companies and our government has always just nodded along. I can't believe how these staffing agencies openly discriminate against hiring American citizens for jobs in their own country! That has to be illegal.

You had some real doozies for co-workers. People you work with are always a mixed bag. I worked with a lot of back-stabbers in my last job. It was a sad ending to an otherwise decent IT career. Its bitter, yeah, something I'll always remember.

After NAFTA and Y2k, it was the beginning of the end for IT jobs for Americans. Outsourcing and offshoring were cheaper options for US companies and it was okay for them to do. Our government never stood up for the American worker and 25 years later its still the same situation. The writing is on the wall when it it comes to working in the IT field.

Outsourcing and Offshoring Don't Work - Most Software Is Buggy Garbage

by FSK, Tuesday, December 09, 2025, 00:22 (21 days ago) @ JoFrance

Every time I have to interact with consumer level software, it sucks. It has obvious flaws and bugs that someone with basic computer literacy should have fixed.

Citigroup credit card website has gotten worse over the years. They took away features I used. It takes a minute to load each page.

My cable box software is worse than it was 20 years ago. It's got some memory leak somewhere and needs to crash/reboot every few weeks.

Walgreen's customer support "AI" is buggy garbage. I always have to speak with a representative.

At work they're forcing us to use OneDrive. It's buggy garbage that doesn't sync properly.

I'm pretty sure all of the above software was written by H1bs or offshore teams. They deliver worse software, at greater expense, than a team of competent citizens. The US Citizens just can't get jobs, period, because the hiring process is run by Indians who only hire other Indians and only H1bs.

^ Have them replace OneDrive with rsync.net. I use it for my piddling backups.

I'll wait while you stop laughing hysterically.

(seriously, rsync.net is sweet. But being based on, uh, "rsync" it's strictly a Unix world thing.)

Noone writes their own code any more. They steal other people's packages and wire them together. That's why everything today is shitty and bloated.

And using AI is going to make things even worse. I heard people say AI is the "maximum technical debt" approach to writing software. It's doing things like having nearly identical code in 5 places rather than writing something properly reusable.

Someone tell me what "Vibe Coding" is?

FSK, do you know about this? It's a term I see a lot on social media to describe software development that isn't hindered by mere technical effort. Vibe coding seems to be adjacent to automated stuff like AI.

Although I haven't tried it, vibe coding is using an LLM to code. The erotic fantasy is that this now means you can get code done without actually knowing anything. Just give the right prompt and the AI spits out working code. In practice, this leads to a maximum technical debt approach to coding. For example, an AI might have several bits of nearly identical code, rather than making a proper reusable function.

The current batch of LLM AIs just fail for tasks that require precise thinking. For example, these LLMs just fail when they try to play chess, hallucinating illegal moves. Now imagine that same chatbot trying to write code.

I guess a lot of software engineers really are so bad that a buggy AI is actually an improvement.

It's been bugging me.

So vibe coding is basically AI coding slop.

I tried it once out of curiosity for what it might produce. I had to rewrite sections so, no, not much chop.

Offshore workers and H1bs are just cheap labor. There is no quality to their work. I've dealt with Walgreen's customer support AI. It's just stupid. When I have to call Walgreen's I just dread it. Its a big pain in the a$$.

Still, companies are okay with their mediocre work product. They don't care about the customer experience.

Walgreen's "AI customer support" is buggy garbage that doesn't work, but people somehow still think AI is coming for all our jobs in the next few years.

What I realized I had to do was switch to a small local pharmacy.

by JoFrance, Monday, December 15, 2025, 18:27 (14 days ago) @ FSK

What I do with Walgreen's AI support is just keep repeating one word to everything it asks. If I need to talk to the pharmacy, I just keep repeating "pharmacy". After not getting the response it wants, it connects me to a real person at the pharmacy.

I don't have a small local pharmacy close to where I live, so that isn't an option for me. Plus, a couple of the pills I take are hard to get. I'm not sure a small pharmacy would have the ability to get them like Walgreens can.

There's one distributor all the pharmacies use. As long as you give 24-48 hours' notice for a refill, the small pharmacy can afford to stock them.

The one good thing with a pharmacy chain like Walgreens is that when your medication is backordered by the manufacturer, they can get your drugs from another Walgreens (if they have them in stock). They've done that several times for me and it was a Godsend.

The drugs I take are older brand name drugs. The generics give me nasty side effects so they're not an option. I wish I was able to take them because they're so much cheaper.

This is a vintage BB post

A blast from the past!

If this administration doesn't crack down on H1Bs, and I don't think it will, it'll never happen.

Yes, this news did inspire the old hellfire and self righteous angst.

Thanks for what I take to be a kudo.

I've grown out of the BB mentality because in the intervening time I've experienced exactly the same basic human shittiness in almost every walk of life and business. Plus 20 years ago I never paid attention to politics. Now that I pay some attention to politics I find the same lack of character and meanness I used to complain about to be evenly distributed across humanity.

That was really the antidote to being BB - understanding that human evil and mediocrity drift is universal. Technical people are profoundly, particularly incurious and clueless about human nature.

Yep, it was meant to be a Kudo.

Seems that your transformation from BB to Cornpop has led you to becoming a full-fledged misanthrope!

mediocrity drift is universal.

That's a new term I haven't heard. I'm guessing that this is similar to "tall poppy syndrome" and the nail that sticks out ends up being hammered down?

Technical people are profoundly, particularly incurious and clueless about human nature.

True. It probably doesn't help that they spend too much time playing video games, or in front of the computer.
