Mamdani against the "bad" landlords - The Kekistani Assembly of Experts

He plans to sieze private property from legal owners if they don't maintain the building properly. This post from Vickie Paladino, a NYC Council member really lays it out well and it isn't pretty.

He won't be that stupid. He needs federal money.

He's also only seizing rent controlled/stabilized apartments.

It's a good plan.

- prevent rent controlled/stabilized apartments from raising rent
- landlord's expenses rise due to inflation, but he can't raise rent
- the only way the landlord can stay afloat is to start cutting corners on repairs
- landlord gets fined for not being in compliance with regulations that cost more than his profit to follow
- Mamdani/city seizes property
- property is given to "responsible" people to run, i.e., people who contributed to Mamdani's campaign

His plan seems so easy, but its a legal nightmare in many ways. They've put landlords that own those apartments in a no-win situation with rent control. Its unfair because costs to maintain those buildings go up every year. I wonder how easy it will be for Mamdani to seize those properties. I'm sure he will fine the landlords extensively for every little thing he can get away with, but it may end up tied up in the courts if the landlord fights it.

Mamdani has the backing of the DSA that is hell-bent on taking the country over with socialism/communism. I wonder how far he'll be able to go before he gets slapped down by the PTB's?
