Theory: there are a TON of EBT recipients, and they are shitty people (reply)

A lot of people on EBT are grifters who are taking advantage of our system. I won't go to some supermarkets near me because they're too crowded and filled with assholes of every type. Its like a combat zone to get groceries.

There needs to be a serious look at who is using these programs.

Dumb Robot Cruises local Kroger's (reply)

I ran into one of these things when shopping last night.

https://www.supermarketnews.com/grocery-technology/robots-rolled-out-at-cincinnati-kroger-stores

It was about 6 feet tall and crawls slowly down the aisle, kind of haphazardly wandering, not in a straight line.

I didn't notice any laser cannon.

You Get What You Pay For (reply)

Suppose you decide to feed stray cats. You put out enough food for however many cats show up. After a month or two, you'll be feeding 20+ stray cats every day, and you'll be wondering "Where did all these cats come from?"

It's the same with welfare. If you give free money and food to unproductive people with no job, they have children, and now you have even more unproductive people with no job. Due to the way welfare works, the more children you have, the more you get paid. If you're a deadbeat parent, the increase in welfare benefit is more than the actual cost of a child. Thus, if your "career" is welfare recipient, the only way you can get a raise is by having more children.

If your "career" is welfare recipient, you have no reason to learn how to be polite to other people. A normal person with a job has to learn how to be polite, because he's forced to deal with idiots all day at work without getting fired. A welfare recipient has no need to learn how to play nice with others.

Theory: there are a TON of EBT recipients, and they are shitty people

As anyone familiar with US politics knows, the US government shutdown has resulted in "food stamps", which is a welfare food assistance program now on debit type cards, being shut down and not funded in early November.

We went to the grocery today (a Kroger marketplace format store) at around 4:30 PM on a Tuesday.

Normally at this time on a week day this store is always kind of tense. Rude, nervous, pushy customers, very crowded, and a lot of casual rudeness.

Today when we went it was almost a ghost town. The parking lot was 1/2 full. The inside of the store was same. Very light foot traffic. People in the aisles were neutral or even polite, not something I'm used to experiencing in this store at peak time.

This told me these things:

1) The population of this town is mostly rude poor assholes who apparently use EBT.
2) Dry up the funds and they go away or go dormant.
3) The remaining non EBT using population is ok.

I've characterized this town as nearly 100% rude assholes, but now I see more clearly that there is a distinct economic line between individuals I loathe and "average" decent people. If you're poor in my town, likely you're stupid, rude, and/or a bit of a piece of shit.

EBT is seeming to me to be a discretionary thing and in most cases not necessary, because around here we aren't hearing about wholesale hardship.
